The Teaching of Tae Kwon Do
A Brief Summary
What is Tae Kwon Do? To put it simply, it is a form of unarmed combat designed
for the purpose of self-defense.
Students learn techniques to defend themselves through intensive physical and
mental training. Tae Kwon Do is more than just self-defense, however.
Disciplined training is the mortar for building a strong sense of justice,
fortitude, humility, and resolve. It is the mental conditioning that separates
the true practitioner form the sensationalist, content with mastering only the
fighting aspects ofthe art.
We at Sun Yi's Academy of Tae Kwon Do strive to uphold the moral ideals upon
which the art of Tae Kwon Do was founded. These are called "Tenets of Tae Kwon
Do," and they summarize what it aims to achieve:
-
Courtesy
-
Integrity
-
Perseverance
-
Self-Control
-
Indomitable Spirit
These tenets guide all true practitioners of the art. The success or failure of
Tae Kwon Do training depends largely on how one observes and implements the
tenets.Tae Kwon Do is an excellent family activity open to all members. No one
is excluded from studying the art; children and adults learn together. No
student is too old to begin.
Because of all the good things which results from studying Tae Kwon Do, it is
righfully called "a way of life". Our goal at Sun Yi's Academy is to continue
the long tradition of the art of Tae Kwon Do.
